This session will explore the history of four Baptist missionaries in Indian Territory around the era of Dawes Allotment (1877 - 1934). Through their stories, traditional narratives surrounding Christianity and Indigenous history are both challenged and reinforced. Historical nuance and a greater depth of understanding will be gained from this presentation.

More Than Just Letters: How letter writing to someone in incarceration changed community in one elementary classroom

Based in a Christian school, this presentation highlights a letter writing relationship between third grade students and the teacher's incarcerated uncle. Through a year-long partnership, students were able to grapple with incarceration, race, and understand a wider sense of Christian community--one that included Uncle Billy.
